As part of the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment, you will contribute to several major research projects aiming to improve conservation outcomes in agricultural landscapes. Your work will focus on the intersection of state and transition models, biodiversity (especially native birds), and ecosystem services across diverse regions including the Mallee, Victorian Volcanic Plains, Tasmanian Midlands, and the Limestone Coast (South Australia).

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and analyse state and transition models and apply them to real-world case studies
  • Lead spatial and ecological data analysis (GIS, remote sensing, field data)
  • Collect and interpret field data, with a strong emphasis on native bird species
  • Produce high-quality reports and publish in peer-reviewed journals
  • Develop frameworks for using bird community condition metrics in conservation and land management

 

You Will Bring

  • A PhD in a relevant field such as Ecology, Environmental Science or Conservation Biology
  • Advanced skills in GIS, spatial modelling, and ecological data analysis
  • Experience in ornithology and biodiversity fieldwork
  • Familiarity with state and transition models
  • Strong research writing and publication record
  • A team-focused, proactive attitude with a commitment to inclusion and innovation
