Lead with influence. Help shape the future of strategic business partnering at La Trobe.

Are you an experienced senior People & Culture professional with the strategic insight to influence executive thinking and the leadership capability to help transform a function?

At La Trobe University, we’re evolving our Strategic Business Partnering model, and we’re seeking an experienced, forward-thinking strategic business partner to help drive that evolution. This role goes beyond strategic support, it’s about actively contributing to the growth, credibility, and maturity of the function, helping position it as a leading model within the tertiary sector.

You’ll bring deep expertise across core people disciplines, including leadership, performance, strategic workforce planning, and organisational development, along with strong business acumen, sound professional judgement and a collaborative mindset. Your ability to build trusted relationships, coach senior leaders, and navigate complexity with personal leadership and resilience will be essential as we deliver on our ambitious strategic people agenda.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a high-performing, values-led P&C team and play a key role in shaping how strategic people leadership is delivered across the University.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategic Business Partnering, you will:

  • Partner with Executive Leaders to deliver meaningful, people-led solutions aligned to organisational strategy.
  • Act as a coach and strategic advisor – enabling a culture of performance, strategic workforce planning and leadership excellence across a wide portfolio.
  • Translate complex people and culture initiatives into relevant, practical, and high-impact actions.
  • Drive culture and engagement initiatives, and enterprise-wide change projects.
  • Champion a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

This role is both strategic and hands-on – perfect for a seasoned People & Culture professional who enjoys shaping big-picture impact while delivering practical outcomes.

What you bring to the role

  • Proven success partnering with senior executives to influence people strategy and drive organisational and local strategic priorities.
  • A coaching mindset and the emotional intelligence to support, challenge and uplift senior and executive leaders.
  • Deep expertise in strategic People & Culture initiatives, including high performance, workforce planning, employee relations and leadership excellence.
  • Ability to manage complexity, ambiguity and competing priorities with credibility, confidence, and care.

Why La Trobe?

  • Hybrid working arrangements and flexibility to support your lifestyle
