The Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research) is responsible for advancing a visionary research agenda, aligned to La Trobe’s Research & Innovation 2030 strategy, that supports researchers to lead high quality, impactful and globally engaged programs of research conducted with high ethical standards.
The incumbent will provide strategic leadership of La Trobe’s research infrastructure and platforms, global research engagement, and works closely with Associate Deans, Research and Industry Engagement, and other university leaders to support research workforce development, with responsibility for delivering improvements in research quality, an uplift in levels of international co-authorship and research citations, and to ensure a strong culture of research ethics and integrity.
It will be crucial for the incumbent to demonstrate leadership in fostering an inclusive and vibrant research culture that actively supports Indigenous researchers and partnerships with Indigenous communities, and advance research initiatives that reflect and empower culturally and linguistically diverse perspectives.
To be considered for this position the successful incumbent will:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversee programs of support to enhance levels of international collaboration and co-authorship, high-quality publications and citations, and a strong network of global advocates;
- Promote an inclusive research culture that actively supports Indigenous researchers and partnerships with Indigenous communities, and advance research initiatives that reflect and empower culturally and linguistically diverse perspectives;
- Implement and oversee programs to support the development of future La Trobe research leaders, and develop staff capabilities through performance monitoring, mentoring, and constructive feedback to meet current and future role requirements;
- Serve as the licence holder for scientific procedures and related animal research licences held by the university and liaise with regulatory authorities as required;
- Working with the Chair, Animal Ethics Committee, the Senior Manager, Ethics, Integrity and Biosafety, and Schools, ensure that effective mechanisms are in place to monitor and maintain animal research within the university and externally that is compliant with legislative requirements;
- Oversee the management of La Trobe’s Animal Research and Teaching Facility, ensuring effective operations, financial management and regulatory compliance.
