The PVC (Research Training) is responsible for the leadership of the La Trobe Graduate Research School and for providing a vibrant, supportive and responsive research training agenda that is aligned to the ambitions of Research & Innovation 2030 strategy and which supports researchers to meet legislative and regulatory obligations.
The incumbent will be responsible for delivering growth in Higher Degree by Research load in a world-class portfolio of research degrees, continued improvement in graduate researcher experience, financial management of the University’s graduate research and RTP scholarship program, and for ensuring the La Trobe’s graduate research programs are compliant with university policy and regulatory requirements.
To be considered for this position the successful incumbent will:
- A high level of drive and integrity with a strong commitment to strategic actions and demonstrated responsibility for managing institutional risk;
- A distinguished record of demonstrated outcomes as a research leader within a higher education environment;
- Proven performance and achievements in management at a senior level including effective leadership of strategic planning process and implementation, and experience in effectively managing budgets at a senior level;
- High-level knowledge of the Higher Education sector and understanding of the Australian research and higher degree research regulatory environment, including regulatory requirements of the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency and the Education Services for Overseas Students Act, and the Research Training Program funding scheme;
- Promote an inclusive research culture that actively supports Indigenous researchers and partnerships with Indigenous communities, and advance research initiatives that reflect and empower culturally and linguistically diverse perspectives.
