About the position
The Clinical Education Lead, Orthoptics, is responsible for managing the daily teaching activities within the School’s Orthoptics Clinic at La Trobe University. This role includes leading and supporting Clinical Educators, overseeing on-campus clinical placements, and collaborating with other Clinical Education Leads to enhance clinical education across the school. The Lead ensures students are supervised as they develop clinical skills while providing a supervised service to patients, requiring significant experience as a clinical practitioner.
In addition to directly supervising students during clinical placements, the Clinical Education Lead is tasked with leading and developing the clinical educator team, coordinating with various stakeholders to deliver high-quality clinical services, and maintaining professional standards through ongoing training and competency assessments. The role is integral to both student education and the provision of patient care in the clinic setting.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you must possess a Master’s degree in Orthoptics or clinical experience equivalent to this qualification, along with substantial expertise in clinical education and student supervision. Strong teaching abilities across in-person, blended, and online environments, excellent communication and leadership skills, and a demonstrated capacity to manage and inspire teams are essential. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of Victoria’s health systems, experience building effective stakeholder relationships, and advanced interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
