About the position
The School of Nursing and Midwifery undertakes a wide range of teaching and research programs in Nursing, Midwifery, Maternal and Child Care, Aged care, Health Service Design, Wellness, Time Critical Nursing, Supportive Care and Wound Management. These interconnecting programs combine to form centres of excellence based within our clinical networks and Research Centres.
The School is seeking a Level B academic who is an endorsed Nurse Practitioner who has expertise in contemporary nursing practice and facilitating postgraduate education. The successful candidate will teach in the School’s successful Master of Nurse Practitioner course.
A Level B academic with a teaching focused appointment will work without the need for close supervision and is expected to develop curriculum, coordinate subjects, and teach and support students as they learn. In addition, a teaching focused academic will support the administrative functions of the discipline as well as undertake scholarly work relevant to the development of learning and teaching in their discipline or professional field.
Duties at this level will include:
- Coordinate and teach subjects providing a high-quality learning experience that engages students through the conduct of lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions, clinical sessions and/or other sessions in online, blended or face-to-face modes.
- Provide constructive, fair and timely feedback on learning to students.
- Initiate, and participate in innovative subject and course level curriculum design (including the embedding of employability capabilities), development and review in areas such as, but not restricted to, online and blended delivery, taking an evidence-based approach to evaluate how these initiatives improve the student experience.
- Demonstrate a scholarly approach to learning and teaching by contributing to La Trobe’s SOLT including sharing of good practice.
Skills and knowledge required for the position:
- Completed an endorsed nurse practitioner master’s degree and recognised significant experience in the discipline area. A doctoral qualification in nursing or a relevant discipline area is highly desirable.
- Hold current endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.
- Current or recent participation in clinical practice as a nurse practitioner.
- Experience in tertiary nursing education, including demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, curriculum development and subject coordination in face-to-face, blended and/or online modes, as evidenced by sustained high results on student feedback on teaching surveys, teaching excellence awards or through other forms of evidence.
- Evidence of innovative initiatives undertaken in the last three years that have improved the student experience, and the evaluation of effectiveness of these initiatives.
Highly Desirable:
- Recent clinical experience in the adult setting with generalist experience would add significant value.
- Ability to produce outputs related to the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching.
- Graduate Certificate in Higher Education or similar evidence of professional preparation for higher education teaching.
