About the position
The School of Nursing and Midwifery has a long and proud history as one of the oldest tertiary nursing schools in Australia. We offer education programs in nursing and midwifery that foster lifelong learning including undergraduate, postgraduate, research higher degrees and continuing professional development programs.
The School of Nursing and Midwifery has immersed its curricula and research within a range of clinical contexts. An essential element is the establishment of Clinical Schools based at Alfred Health, Austin Health, Northern Health and Melbourne Health networks. The Clinical Schools enable students direct access to expert clinicians and clinical services, provide a rich environment for clinically relevant research and practice change and facilitate opportunities for staff to engage with clinical practice. The School has a long established national and international reputation in nursing and midwifery research and education, and the Clinical Schools provide opportunities for educational innovations, including simulation and clinician facilitated student supervision.
The School is seeking a Level D academic with excellent expertise in contemporary midwifery research, academic leadership and student/staff supervision. The successful candidate will be expected to provide excellent research leadership and make an excellent contribution to the national and international research reputation of the School/University, including research resulting in publications in high impact national and international journals and the acquisition of competitive external research funding, as well as academic leadership and staff/student supervision.
Duties at this level will include:
- Develop, teach and coordinate subjects and courses that engage and motivate students whilst providing a high quality learning experience.
- Lead the development, design and review of curriculum and/or programs of study.
- Make a leading/national contribution to scholarship of learning and teaching and disciplinary teaching pedagogy and research.
- Conduct and lead outstanding innovative and high impact research and produce conference and seminar papers and publications arising from the research.
- Publish in leading (international where appropriate) journals and/or invited presentation at international conferences.
- Participate in discipline-based mentoring and coaching of more junior colleagues to develop their teaching and research knowledge and performance.
Skills and knowledge required for this position:
- Completion of a PhD or equivalent accreditation and standing recognised by the University/profession as appropriate for the relevant discipline areas.
- Registered or eligible to register as a Registered Midwife with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Demonstrated effectiveness and leadership in curriculum development and teaching with a proven commitment to excellence in teaching.
- Evidence of effective contributions to leadership and management at the Department, School or University level.
- Strong record of publications, including papers in leading international journals and/or invited presentation at international conferences.
- Proven experience and success in managing staff performance and development.
