About the position
La Trobe has established a number of Research Platforms, including the Bioimaging Platform, to support researchers and enhance their capacity to produce high-quality research. The Bioimaging Platform supports a wide range of research projects by providing researchers with expert advice and access to cutting-edge equipment and technologies in optical and electron microscopy, flow cytometry, histology and image analysis.
A full-time position is now available to support the flow cytometry capability. The key function of this role is to provide expert technical support, service and training in flow cytometry for staff, students and industry partners across the University, in a variety of disciplines, to enable and accelerate their research programs.
The appointee will be primarily responsible for managing the flow cytometry capability, ensuring that instruments are maintained and fully operational, users are trained and competent, and, where required, providing a cell sorting and analysis service and advice on flow cytometry experimental design.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have;
- A postgraduate degree in life sciences, with subsequent relevant technical experience; or extensive relevant technical experience and management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
- Extensive expertise and experience in operating and maintaining flow cytometry equipment, including troubleshooting issues and performing routine replacement of parts, if required.
- Demonstrated expertise in cell biology, immunology and tissue culture, and a publication record in molecular and life sciences.
- Experience in training a range of users, such as students and staff, in flow cytometry, sample preparation techniques, equipment operation and data analysis.
