About the position
La Trobe University’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences is strengthening its research in Global Security, with a focus on building a strong academic community in this field. As part of this effort, the La Trobe Centre for Global Security is seeking to appoint a full-time Research Fellow to support its growing maritime security research program.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior colleagues to contribute to ongoing projects and develop a research agenda aligned with the School’s priorities. This includes seeking external research funding and contributing to research excellence.
The role also involves coordinating activities within the Blue Security Program, a DFAT-funded initiative led by La Trobe Asia, which focuses on maritime security challenges in the Indo-Pacific, especially Southeast Asia. This includes organising events such as workshops, conferences, dialogues and public forums as well as helping to build partnerships across government, industry, civil society and the private sector and bridging academic and policy conversations on key maritime security issues in the region.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have
- Completion of a PhD or equivalent qualifications or research experience, in politics, international relations, strategic studies, international studies, history or other relevant discipline.
- A record of publications, conference papers and/or reports, or professional or technical contributions which provide evidence of strong research potential in the area of maritime security.
- Demonstrated experience in research project coordination, with an ability to coordinate several different projects concurrently.
- Sound analytical skills with an ability to communicate complex information clearly both orally and in writing.
