About the position
La Trobe’s Ethics, Integrity and Biosafety Team provides expert advice, training and governance support to researchers and committees, ensuring research is ethical and compliant. The team drives policy and procedure implementation, continuous improvement and research governance strategies aligned with the University’s commitment to research excellence.
As a senior research ethics expert, you will play a key leadership role within the Ethics, Integrity and Biosafety team. You will oversee the University's ethics operations, manage key committees and lead strategic initiatives to strengthen compliance, governance and service delivery. This role involves providing expert advice to internal and external stakeholders, supporting policy and procedure implementation, and driving continuous improvement in research governance through digital solutions and best practice frameworks.
Some of your duties will include:
- Lead and manage ethics operations, ensuring effective resource planning and service delivery.
- Provide strategic advice on research ethics, governance, compliance and risk management.
- Implement and enhance University wide ethics processes using digital solutions and new technologies.
- Promote researcher understanding of ethics requirements through training and guidance based on national guidelines and related legislation, regulations and best practice.
- Oversee University Ethics Committees and ensure compliance with national standards.
- Contribute to performance reporting and provide support to facilitate audits and risk-based monitoring of research projects.
- Support strategic planning as part of the Research Office leadership group and act as delegate for the Senior Manager when required.
Skills & Experience:
- Postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience in research ethics (5-10 years) in higher education or clinical settings.
- Deep knowledge of legislation and regulatory frameworks across human and animal ethics, biosafety, and research integrity.
- Proven leadership, stakeholder engagement, and team management capabilities.
- Experience managing research ethics committees and implementing system-wide improvements.
