About the position
The La Trobe Institute for Molecular Science (LIMS) is a world-class multidisciplinary biomedical research institute based at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. Bringing together leading researchers from across the University and beyond, LIMS seeks equitable solutions to today’s global health and wellbeing challenges. From biology to engineering, genomics to physics, the Institute conducts impactful research through the creative integration of core scientific disciplines.
LIMS requires independent support to undertake the administrative elements of its activities. The LIMS Administration Officer will provide effective operational and transactional assistance, primarily to the Deputy Directors of LIMS, but also to the Director and other LIMS staff as needed, to help achieve the Institute’s aims in research.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Provide transactional support across La Trobe’s online systems including HR, Finance, Expensify, Room Bookings, and Travel Bookings.
- Schedule meetings and manage diaries and emails.
- Assist with meeting secretariat as required.
- Assist with the creation and management of events; help manage and keep track of projects.
- Undertake recurring work as well as projects.
- Liaise with laboratory and technical staff as required.
- Support members of the LIMS team to perform their activities as needed.
- Provide input into LIMS planning exercises.
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have:
- Degree with subsequent relevant experience to consolidate the theories and principles learned, or extensive experience, leading to either the development of specialist expertise or to the development of broad knowledge in an administrative field, or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
- High level proficiency in computer software packages including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, electronic mail, and the use of the internet as a research tool.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated customer service focus and solution orientated approach.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Experience working in a large, diverse organisation.
- Experience completing tasks using online transactional systems.
- Demonstrated high-level interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in the tertiary education environment.
