About the Position
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Family Therapist / Workforce Trainer to join the Bouverie Centre, La Trobe University — a unique practice-research-translation centre within the School of Psychology and Public Health within La Trobe University and a statewide specialist mental health service.

This role is positioned within the Clinical Family Therapy Services program, with additional support provided to the Practice and Service Development program by providing training, supervision, and organisational consultation, or contribute to teaching within the Centre’s Academic Program.

As a Clinical Family Therapist your role will include delivering advanced specialist family therapy services to a diverse range of families with complex presentations including mental health challenges, alcohol and other drug issues, and relational trauma, specialist clinical services working with First Nations and LGBTIQA+ families, apply evidence-informed practice, and help develop innovative systemic practice models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct specialist family therapy services and manage a complex caseload.
  • Facilitate the uptake of family therapy and systemic practices through training, supervision, and consultation.
  • Contribute to innovative practice-research projects, service development, and teaching.
  • Collaborate across research, training, and service support teams to advance systemic health approaches.
  • Attend regular clinical meetings and actively contribute to The Bouverie Centre’s vision and goals.

Skills & Experience
To succeed, you will have:

  • A Master’s in Clinical Family Therapy (or equivalent) with at least five years’ experience in family therapy.
  • Eligibility for Clinical Membership of the Australian Association of Family Therapy.
  • Highly developed skills in working with families impacted by mental ill-health, AOD, complex trauma or child protection issues from a systemic perspective.
  • Demonstrated experience in training, supervision, and organisational consultation.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work flexibly and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
