About the position
Reporting to the Director La Trobe Asia, this role is responsible for coordinating policy and research programs and providing executive support for La Trobe Asia’s operations. The incumbent of this role will work closely with the Director, La Trobe Asia, and other key stakeholders including the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the La Trobe Asia advisory board in the promotion of research, public and policy engagement at La Trobe.
Some of your duties will include:
- Working with the Director, La Trobe Asia, provide executive support to research programs, including through the management of strategic initiatives and relationships with government and non-government organisations, the coordination of publications, events, and other activities, and contributing to the financial management of operating and program budgets.
- Contribute to developing the research programs of La Trobe Asia, including providing executive support to the Director, La Trobe Asia, on external funding applications.
- Provide effective and efficient executive support to committees governing the La Trobe Asia program, such as the La Trobe Asia Advisory Board, including the preparation of reports and papers.
- Provide advice and support to the Director, La Trobe Asia, on matters impacting the promotion of relevant research, public and policy engagement, and scholarship in and beyond the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and La Trobe University.
- Support the Director, La Trobe Asia, in the development and implement of plans to establish and maintain new global research partnerships, particularly centred upon issues of global security.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
- An undergraduate degree in any area relevant to the position with at least 4 years subsequent experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience. Expertise in international relations, security and strategic studies, international studies and/or global politics especially welcome.
- Demonstrated skills in research, evaluation, or interpretation of data.
- Demonstrated ability to form a detailed knowledge of academic and administrative policies and the interrelationships between a range of policies and activities.
- Demonstrated experience in project management in the tertiary sector or a related field.
- High level written communication skills, with an emphasis on the ability to write background papers, reports, and presentations, and to coordinate the development of program agreements with a high-level attention to detail.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to research in the Asian context.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting research engagement in Australia and Asia.
