About the position
 
As part of La Trobe’s long-term commitment to enhance and protect Nangak Tamboree, the full riparian corridor along the waterway is being revegetated over the next 5-10 years.
 
Phase one of the project, which was completed in December 2022, covered the Darebin Creek frontage and involved regenerating indigenous plant species and managing weed infestation through Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung fire practice and manual weed removal, and revegetating 92,000 m2 with indigenous plant species.
 
Reporting to the Land Management Coordinator, the Land Management Assistant is responsible for providing hands-on environmental work along the Nangak Tamboree Eco-Corridor that with the Melbourne (Bundoora) campus of La Trobe University.
 
The Land Management Assistant works with the Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary Land Management team to maintain revegetation infrastructure and conduct bushland regeneration and habitat enhancement works along the Nangak Tamboree.
 
Skills and Experience
To be considered for this position, you will have
 
• A degree with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.  
• Knowledge of Victorian flora and fauna and their ecological associations
• Experience in weed control, seed collection, plant propagation and revegetation.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise skilled staff and volunteers.
• Ability to work within a team environment and liaise with other departments in a professional manner
