The Opportunity:
Join La Trobe University's Institute for Sustainable Agriculture & Food (LISAF) as a Senior Research Fellow in Food Chemistry and make a significant impact on sustainable and nutritious food production. Collaborate with a world-class team and industry partners to advance research in plant-based food development, ensuring quality, nutrition, and sustainability.

About the Role:
This role focuses on innovative research infood lipid and flavour science, utilizing advanced analytical technologies to optimize sustainable food ingredients and products. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading high-impact research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Supervising postgraduate students and mentoring emerging researchers.
  • Identify new sources and ingredients for food and nutraceutical applications with particular emphasis on oils/fats, natural sweeteners, colourants, and flavours..
  • Securing research funding and managing collaborative projects with industry and government partners.
  • Analysing ingredients using cutting-edge techniques like GC-MS, LC-MS, and HPLC.
  • Enhancing food quality through ingredient innovations and process improvements.

About You:
You are an experienced researcher in food chemistry or technology with a proven track record in:

  • Publishing high-quality research and securing competitive grants.
  • Supervising students to successful completion.
  • Innovating plant-based food formulations with practical industry knowledge.
  • Analytical chemistry techniques for lipid, flavour, and sugar analysis.

A PhD in Food Science or a related field is essential, alongside strong technical expertise and knowledge of Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
