To be eligible, a staff member must be a continuing staff member who has reached their retirement age, or will do so at the expiry of the term of the pre-retirement contract, and has completed a minimum of three years continuous service with La Trobe. For the purpose of this process, the retirement age is a term defined by the preservation age as set by the relevant superannuation fund.
Under this process, staff will be able to:
- Nominate an end date no later than 30 June 2022
- Nominate a time fraction or fractions, noting that this should be less than 60 per cent in the first year and must be less than 50 per cent in the second year
- Nominate their preferred work allocation.
The pre-retirement contract must commence on 1 July 2020.
Staff members can express interest in a pre-retirement contract by Friday 12 June. As an incentive to nominate in this round, staff who are accepted for a pre-retirement contract will be eligible for a redundancy under clause 32 of the LTUCA if the University has a future redundancy program that impacts on their position.
After the application date, all nominations will be assessed by the relevant Local Area Approval Committee, taking into consideration the needs of the work area. This assessment will take place at the same time as the VRP Expressions of Interest and will take no longer than five business days. As with voluntary redundancies, not all eligible applicants will be accepted.
