Dementia Training Australia (DTA) is an Australian Government funded dementia education program aimed at strengthening the capability of the health and aged care workforce to provide high-quality care for people living with dementia, their families and carers.

The La Trobe University DTA team sits within the Australian Institute of Primary Care and Ageing in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, and is responsible for the delivery of DTA’s General Practice education program. General practice plays an important role across the dementia care pathway, including risk reduction, recognising possible cognitive change, supporting assessment and diagnosis, coordinating care, providing post-diagnostic support and assisting people living with dementia and their carers to navigate health and aged care services.

General Practice Nurses are an integral part of the general practice team and are well placed to identify changes in cognition or function, support assessment and care planning, provide preventive and ongoing care, engage with families and carers, and contribute to coordinated, person-centred dementia care.

DTA is seeking an experienced General Practice Nurse Educator to support the development and delivery of high-quality, practical dementia education for General Practice Nurses nationally. You will work closely with the DTA GP Program Manager, Program Administrator, GP Educators, DTA subject matter experts and external education providers to develop and deliver education that reflects contemporary evidence, the realities of general practice and the specific scope and contribution of General Practice Nurses.

In this role you will:

  • Develop and adapt education content so it is relevant, practical and appropriate to the role and scope of General Practice Nurses.
  • Deliver education nationally through face-to-face workshops, webinars, virtual sessions and other agreed formats.
  • Facilitate interactive, case-based learning that supports General Practice Nurses to translate dementia knowledge into everyday practice.
  • Contribute to the review, evaluation and continuous improvement of General Practice Nurse education.
  • Provide advice to the GP Program team on the General Practice Nurse role, workforce context, learning needs and opportunities for engagement.

The role is predominantly remote, with flexibility around education development activities. Delivery times will vary according to scheduled education activities and may include occasional evening, weekend and interstate commitments.

  • Knowledge of person-centred dementia care and the needs of people living with dementia, families and carers.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and/or delivering education to nurses, primary healthcare professionals or other health professionals.
