About the position

The Prevention and Inclusion team drives effective whole-of-institution outcomes aligned with the La Trobe Strategic Plan 2025–2030, maximising impact in student equity, inclusivity, cohesion, and safety. This body of work, known as Respect at La Trobe, focuses on working within and alongside La Trobe communities to enhance and sustain health-promoting environments, through the values, behaviours, norms, cultures, policies, systems and structures at La Trobe; and contributing to the evidence of what works.

The Senior Coordinator, Wellbeing and Respect, contributes to achieving this purpose as part of the Prevention and Inclusion team, reporting to the Manager, Wellbeing and Inclusion.

Duties will include but not limited to:

  • Coordinate and collaborate on cross-portfolio and cross-divisional project implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the Respect at La Trobe Action Plans and Respect Outcomes Framework in compliance with the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender-based Violence.
  • Contribute to strengthening high-level advocacy, leadership and governance within La Trobe to drive systemic change towards rights, respect and equity.
  • Engage in collaborative networks and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to address social issues that impact student health at La Trobe.
  • Assist in enhancing individual and University teams’ knowledge and skills to support colleagues to integrate social determinants of health into their work.
  • Raise awareness of, contribute to, and connect with existing health-promoting social movements within La Trobe and across the community.
  • Contribute to building and responding to the research and evidence of what enables healthy communities.


Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Demonstrated skills in social research, evaluation or interpretation of data.
  • Demonstrated critical writing and narrative crafting skills with the ability to clearly and persuasively translate technical information into audience-appropriate material.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively in small cross-divisional teams, with academics, professional staff, student leaders and external organisations.
  • Ability to apply theoretical knowledge or management, project or policy expertise to bring together diverse and sometimes conflicting information to solve problems.
  • A thorough understanding of how to apply a social determinants of health approach within the university as an institution, and in consideration of its external environments (e.g., government legislative, guidelines and requirements).
