We are reducing the overall use of academic casual employment and providing meaningful pathways for casual academic staff to ongoing academic employment through our casual consolidation project.
To be eligible, you must (a) Have casual experience totalling at least two (2) teaching sessions at La Trobe University in the previous two (2) years; (b) Have not held a continuing position in a university in the previous three (3) years.
About the role
La Trobe University is seeking a passionate and practice‑oriented Lecturer in Data Analytics to join the Department of Accounting, Data Analytics, Economics and Finance within La Trobe Business School.
This teaching‑focused academic role will contribute to high‑quality learning and teaching across Data Analytics programs, including subject coordination, curriculum development and the delivery of engaging, experiential learning. You will play a key role in connecting students with industry‑relevant practice while contributing to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in the discipline.
This is an excellent opportunity for an educator with strong disciplinary expertise who is motivated to innovate in learning and teaching and make a meaningful impact on student outcomes.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver high‑quality teaching in Data Analytics through workshops, practical classes, simulations and other experiential learning activities.
- Design, develop and review curriculum at subject and course level using evidence‑based teaching approaches.
- Provide effective consultation, assessment and timely, constructive feedback to students.
- Contribute to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoLT), including scholarly outputs and the sharing of good practice through seminars or conferences.
- Engage with industry and represent the discipline or School at relevant external events.
- With appropriate mentoring support, seek internal and/or external funding for teaching and learning improvement initiatives.
- Participate in the collegial, administrative and governance activities of the Department and School.
Skills and experience
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
- A PhD or equivalent accreditation and standing in Data Analytics or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated competence in university teaching, subject coordination and curriculum development.
- Evidence of innovative teaching or curriculum initiatives within the past three years that have enhanced the student experience, including evaluation of their effectiveness.
- Demonstrated engagement with the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
- Ability or demonstrated capacity to obtain funding for learning and teaching improvement projects.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, collegial academic environment.
