We are reducing the overall use of academic casual employment and providing meaningful pathways for casual academic staff to ongoing academic employment through our casual consolidation project.

To be eligible, you must (a) Have casual experience totalling at least two (2) teaching sessions at La Trobe University in the previous two (2) years; (b) Have not held a continuing position in a university in the previous three (3) years.

Are you passionate about rural health and committed to developing the next generation of nurses and midwives? La Trobe University’s Rural Health School—the largest in Australia—is seeking a dynamic Lecturer in Nursing and Midwifery to join our Albury-Wodonga campus.

About the Role:
As a Lecturer, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching, developing innovative curriculum, and supporting students to become skilled, compassionate health professionals. You’ll coordinate and teach subjects, contribute to research, and help shape the future of rural health education. You’ll also have the opportunity to collaborate with local, national, and international partners to enhance teaching, clinical placements, and research.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver engaging learning experiences in nursing and midwifery.
  • Innovate in curriculum design and teaching methods, including online and blended delivery.
  • Contribute to research teams and produce high-quality research outputs.
  • Supervise and mentor students, including Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates.
  • Support student recruitment, retention, and course accreditation activities.
  • Build partnerships with industry and community stakeholders.

About You:
You are a dual registered Midwife and Registered Nurse (NMBA/AHPRA) with demonstrated experience in teaching and curriculum development in tertiary or clinical settings. You have a strong understanding of rural health challenges, a passion for student success, and a commitment to professional development. You are collaborative, innovative, and have excellent communication and organisational skills.

Essential Criteria:

  • PhD or equivalent professional experience (or willingness to undertake PhD studies).
  • Demonstrated teaching competence and curriculum development experience.
  • Evidence of high-quality research and/or industry engagement.
  • Advanced understanding of contemporary midwifery and rural health issues.
  • Experience supervising students and working with diverse teams.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
