About the position

La Trobe University is offering an exciting opportunity for a current PhD candidate to step into a part-time teaching role as a Doctoral Teaching Assistant. Based at our Melbourne (Bundoora) campus, this 2.5-year fixed term position (1 day per week) is designed to support the professional development of early career academics within the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment.

You’ll play a key role in undergraduate teaching—supporting student learning in fields such as agriculture, biomedicine or environment—while also developing your own teaching portfolio.

In this role, you will:

• Deliver engaging subject content through tutorials, practical classes, and online sessions
• Assist with curriculum and assessment design under the guidance of subject coordinators
• Provide feedback to students and support their academic progress
• Participate in the School’s Communities of Practice and contribute to local engagement
• Undertake scholarly work to enhance learning and teaching in your discipline

About you:

• Currently enrolled PhD candidate (minimum 4 months into candidature) in the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment
• Strong foundational knowledge in one or more relevant scientific disciplines
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Organised, collaborative, and committed to enhancing student outcomes
