About the position

La Trobe University’s Department of Politics, Media and Philosophy seeks to appoint an excellent academic to a continuing, full-time (1.0 FTE) position as a Level-B Lecturer in Media and Communication. This teaching-focussed position is designed to help deliver the full Media and Communication curriculum.

The successful applicant will contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across the Media and Communication curriculum, with expertise in Broadcast Journalism.

Teaching could include any of the core subjects in the Journalism major in the Bachelor of Media and Communication, with current priorities including subjects like MAC1MME Making Media, JRN3BEJ Broadcast Journalism, and our work-integrated-learning broadcast journalism subject Upstart for all year levels (JRN2UP1, JRN3UP2, and JRN3UP3).

 

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • A completed PhD in Journalism, Media and Communication or a cognate discipline, or evidence of participation in higher level study relevant to the discipline or area combined with relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to refresh curriculum regularly, to reflect current industry practices, trends, and emerging technologies, to ensure that students are taught the knowledge and contemporary skillsets required in broadcast journalism today.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach students technical and editorial roles within television production spaces.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Broadcast Journalism and media production, to enable the applicant to teach subjects like MAC1MME Making Media, JRN3BEJ Broadcast Journalism, and our work-integrated-learning broadcast journalism subject Upstart (JRN2UP1, JRN3UP2, and JRN3UP3), as evidenced in relevant professional experience or prior experience in teaching subjects in these areas
  • Demonstrated capacity to mark undergraduate level assessment tasks in the field of Media and Communication
