About the position
This laboratory support role falls within the Facilities and Technical Services (FTS) team in the Science disciplines primarily supporting the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment (SABE).
This position is required to work as part of a technical team supporting undergraduate teaching by assisting with labware cleaning and washup. The role is also involved with a range of technical, administrative, and facilities support assisting staff and students to achieve teaching / learning, and where resources allow, research outcomes.
The primary purpose of the role is to:
- clean laboratory equipment (e.g. glassware) using manual or automated equipment
- sterilise glassware, equipment or infectious waste using an autoclave
- deliver equipment to various areas for use
- maintain the cleanliness of the laboratory washup area
- collect local laundry for drycleaning services
- assist with the storage and inventory control of consumable materials and equipment for the teaching laboratories
Essential Criteria
Skills and knowledge required for the position
- Performs duties at a skill level which requires completion of year 12 or Certificate II with relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
- Good communication skills, including verbal, written, listening, interpreting and nonverbal skills.
- A flexible attitude to work and an ability to accommodate and adapt to change.
- Good knowledge and skills in using information technology applications relevant to the role.
- Understanding of working safely in laboratory spaces
