About the position

This position is required to work as part of a technical team which supports teaching  activities in the dental simulation laboratory. This position will provide a broad range of technical, administration, and facilities support services to assist staff and students to achieve teaching and learning outcomes.

Duties will include but not be limited to:

  • Test, calibrate and maintain equipment required for the dental teaching laboratories  
  • Ensure infection and prevention control protocols and processes, in the 8 chair LRH Dental Clinic are followed according to the Australian Dental Association standards and guidelines – including
    • Standard precautions
    • Strategies within the contaminated area
    • Instrument reprocessing
    • Documentation
  • Supervise and correct students in infection, prevention and control when they are learning in the LRH Dental Clinic
  • Maintain the day to day running of the sterilisation room
  • Follow verbal instructions, procedures and protocols in order to learn new hands-on, practical tasks – such as learning (and becoming competent) in the set-up of natural and endodontic teeth in manikin jaws.

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Completion of a degree without subsequent relevant work experience; or completion of an advanced diploma qualification and at least one year’s subsequent relevant work experience; or completion of a diploma qualification and at least two years’ subsequent relevant work experience; or completion of a Certificate IV and extensive relevant work experience; or completion of a post-trades certificate and extensive (typically more than two years’) relevant experience as a technician; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • A dental assistant, dental oral health therapist, dental technician or dental practice manager qualification is essential
  • A sound understanding and practical experience of infection prevention and control (according to the Australian Dental Association Guidelines and Standards) in a dental setting
  • Demonstrated ability to gain a conceptual understanding of relevant policies, procedures or systems and interpretation in the application of policy and/or precedent.
