About the position

A Level A Doctoral Teaching Assistant will work both independently and under supervision and is expected to contribute to the development of curriculum, assessment design, assist in the coordination of subjects, teach and support students as they learn, particularly at undergraduate level.

This specific role will require contributions to teaching in biochemistry, cell biology, molecular genetics/genomics, biotechnology, biomedicine, and/or related fields.

In addition, a teaching focused academic will support the administrative functions of the discipline as well as undertake scholarly work relevant to the development of learning and teaching in their discipline or broad science areas.

A teaching focused academic is expected to demonstrate teaching excellence in keeping with the La Trobe Teaching Excellence Principles and maintain a track record of excellence as evidenced by Student Feedback on Teaching (SFT) surveys undertaken at least once during each 12-months of the fixed-term period, peer-review of teaching and through other evidence-based measures.

 

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have:

  • Active in PhD candidature for at least 4-months in the School of Agriculture, Biomedicine and Environment.
  • Demonstrable advanced knowledge in the fields of biochemistry, cell biology, molecular genetics/genomics, biotechnology and/or biomedicine, and general scientific knowledge.
  • Evidence of effective time management.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to interact effectively, collaboratively and productively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member in a collaborative and collegial manner.
