About the position
As an esteemed research academic, the Associate Professor/Professor of Nursing will lead industry engagement and contribute to the research, clinical and academic partnership between La Trobe University and Alfred Health across Home Acute and Community (HAC) Programs. They will ensure strong industry and consumer engagement and provide research leadership to Alfred clinicians and researchers, alongside academics and students at La Trobe University. They will facilitate an evidence-based approach to health care, with an emphasis on interprofessional practice and consumer-focussed and industry co-produced research and translation.
The successful applicant will lead and develop a research team focused on innovative health or social care practice, interventions or technologies, within an implementation sciences framework. The Associate Professor/Professor will work alongside the ARCH Director to engage with stakeholders to encourage and promote a robust and innovative research culture and rapid translation of evidence into practice. They will lead outstanding research, increase research income and publications in high quality international journals, increase the number of co-produced research and translation projects with industry partners and increase the number of research higher degree students at the ARCH partner sites. The Associate Professor/Professor will also promote recruitment and retention of high-quality staff and research higher degree students by providing leadership within a contemporary healthcare environment which supports training, education and ongoing professional development of the current and future healthcare workforce.
Candidates with a research and professional background relevant to implementation sciences in nursing and an outstanding track record of research in one or more of the following areas of research strengths would be particularly welcome: rehabilitation, aged care, chronic disease management, community and care pathways, and consumer engagement.
Duties at this level D/E will include:
- Uphold a high level of personal commitment, contribution and achievement at an internationally distinguished level in a particular area of research or scholarship.
- Foster excellence and advancement of the research discipline within both organisations by playing a major role in all elements of major research projects including management and leadership.
- Develop, lead and be accountable for a clinical research centre relevant to nursing at Alfred Health, the A+ Alliance and La Trobe University, that aligns with programmatic themes of the nursing strategic research plan and the strategic priorities of Alfred Health nursing
- Provide leadership and foster excellence in research and policy development in the discipline within Alfred Health, La Trobe University and the scholarly and/or general community.
- Prepare research proposal submissions to internal schemes, external funding bodies and be responsible for obtaining research grants and the financial management of grants.
- Play a leading role in discipline-based mentoring and supporting the development of more junior research and administrative staff within Alfred Health and La Trobe University.
- Contribute to broader leadership processes with La Trobe University and nursing at Alfred Health.
- Acknowledge their affiliation with Alfred Health and La Trobe University in all of their research outputs, including oral presentations, published papers and book chapters.

The person appointed to the position must:
- Maintain an understanding of individual responsibility for patient safety, quality & risk and contribute to organisational quality and safety initiatives
- Comply with Alfred Health mandatory continuing professional development requirements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Alfred Health clinical and administrative policies and guidelines.
Essential Criteria:
- Completion of a PhD or equivalent accreditation and standing together with subsequent research experience.
- Established research profile in at least one of the following areas: ageing, chronic disease management, community-based care, rehabilitation
