About the position

The Research Office supports La Trobe University researchers and leaders by providing clear advice, accurate reporting, and responsive services to help achieve strong research outcomes and drive ongoing improvement.

The Research Development and Grants Team manages end-to-end pre-award support for competitive research funding, including ARC, NHMRC, MRFF, philanthropic, and other local and international schemes. The team works closely with researchers across all campuses and partners with school leadership, particularly Associate Deans Research and Industry Engagement, to lift the quality of grant proposals and improve success rates.

The Grants Advisor leads pre-award support for Category 2 and 3 grant schemes across the University. As the subject matter expert, the role also strengthens connections between the Research Office, Industry Engagement, and the Alumni and Advancement Office, including developing a streamlined process for trust and foundation grant applications. The role reports to the Research Development Manager, ARC and Industry.

 

Skills and Experience

To be considered for this position, you will have

  • An undergraduate degree in any area relevant to the position with at least 4 years subsequent experience; or extensive experience and management expertise; or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially the capacity to work collaboratively and cooperatively in small teams.
  • Demonstrated organisation and problem-solving skills, with an ability to manage several different projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated high level of self-motivation and personal management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders to achieve stated outcomes.
  • Experience in dealing with research contracts and agreements and working with external stakeholders to manage expectations.
