We are reducing the overall use of academic casual employment and providing meaningful pathways for casual academic staff to ongoing academic employment through our casual consolidation project. To be eligible, you must (a) Have casual experience totalling at least two (2) teaching sessions at La Trobe University in the previous two (2) years; (b) Have not held a continuing position in a university in the previous three (3) years.

About the Role: La Trobe University’s Department of Community and Clinical Health is seeking a Lecturer in Orthoptics (Teaching Focussed) to join our team. In this role, you will develop curriculum, teach, and undertake scholarly work relevant to Orthoptics, contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate programs. You’ll be part of a dynamic, innovative school with a strong reputation for research excellence, industry partnerships, and student success.

Key Responsibilities:

· Develop, coordinate, and teach subjects, delivering high-quality learning experiences through lectures, tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, and clinical sessions (in-person, online, or blended).

· Lead and implement teaching improvement projects at subject, course, or discipline level.

· Provide principal or co-supervision to Honours and/or Masters by coursework students.

· Demonstrate effectiveness by taking an evidence-based approach to evaluate learning and teaching initiatives.

· Contribute to La Trobe’s Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SOLT) and share good practice.

· Undertake other duties as required by the Head of Department or Dean.

About You:

· Master’s degree in Orthoptics or equivalent clinical experience.

· Demonstrated experience in teaching and flexibility to teach a broad range of subjects.

· Effectiveness in teaching, curriculum development, and subject coordination across various delivery modes.

· Evidence of innovative initiatives that have improved the student experience.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.

· High-level oral and written communication skills.

· Knowledge, expertise, and skills in at least one or more key areas of orthoptic practice.

· (Desirable) PhD degree.
