About the Role: La Trobe University’s Department of Politics, Media and Philosophy is seeking an outstanding academic for a part-time (0.5 FTE), continuing Lecturer (Level B) position in Media and Communication. This teaching-focussed role will support the delivery and ongoing innovation of our Media and Communication curriculum, with a particular emphasis on social media and writing for media.
The successful candidate will contribute to excellence in teaching and learning across the curriculum, with a focus on subjects such as MAC2USM Using Social Media and MAC1WFM Writing for Media. You will also maintain a research agenda commensurate with a 10–20% research allocation, either in the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching or in a research project.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach and coordinate subjects, delivering high-quality learning experiences through lectures, tutorials, workshops, and online, blended, or face-to-face modes.
- Provide constructive, fair, and timely feedback to students.
- Collaborate on innovative curriculum design, development, and review, ensuring alignment with current industry practices and emerging technologies.
- Maintain a research agenda in line with a 10–20% research allocation.
- Undertake other duties and administrative functions as required by the Head of Department or School.
About You:
- Completed PhD in Journalism, Media and Communication, or a cognate discipline, or evidence of advanced study combined with relevant professional experience.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching and curriculum development across various delivery modes.
- Evidence of innovative initiatives that have improved the student experience.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and productively with diverse staff and students.
- Ability to refresh curriculum to reflect current industry trends and teach contemporary skillsets in broadcast journalism and social media.
- Demonstrated experience teaching and assessing social media and writing for media.
- Capacity to maintain a research agenda commensurate with a 10–20% allocation.
