About the position

The Research Office at La Trobe University plays a pivotal role in supporting researchers, academic, and key stakeholders to achieve outstanding research outcomes. We provide expert advice, accurate reporting and efficient client services, fostering strong partnerships between the University and external bodies such as funding agencies, industry, government and regulatory authorities.

As Senior Manager, Ethics, Integrity and Biosafety, you will lead a high-performing team responsible for delivering holistic ethics, integrity and biosafety services. This includes supporting University Ethics Committees, driving compliance with national and international standards, and implementing strategic initiatives that underpin La Trobe’s commitment to Research Excellence.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Lead and manage the Ethics, Integrity and Biosafety Team, ensuring effective resourcing and financial oversight.
  • Provide strategic advice on research ethics, integrity, governance, compliance, and risk management.
  • Oversee University-wide policy development and implementation in response to legislative and regulatory changes.
  • Manage and support University Ethics Committees, ensuring robust governance and compliance with national standards.
  • Promote research integrity through training programs and proactive engagement with stakeholders.
  • Coordinate responses to government policy changes and represent the University in external consultations.
  • Contribute to the Research Office Leadership Group and act as delegate for the Executive Director when required.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to align with best practice across the sector.

Skills & Experience:

  • A postgraduate qualification and extensive experience (5–10 years) in research integrity and policy within higher education or clinical settings.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, including change management and resource planning.
  • In-depth knowledge of research governance, ethics, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience managing Ethics Committees and handling breaches of responsible research conduct.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to build consultative relationships across diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement effective systems and processes to improve service delivery.
