We are reducing the overall use of academic casual employment and providing meaningful pathways for casual academic staff to ongoing academic employment through our casual consolidation project.
To be eligible, you must (a) Have casual experience totalling at least two (2) teaching sessions at La Trobe University in the previous two (2) years; (b) Have not held a continuing position in a university in the previous three (3) years.
About the Role
La Trobe University’s Department of Engineering is seeking a Lecturer (Teaching-Focussed) in Manufacturing Engineering. The department leads multidisciplinary research projects and offers rigorous undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality teaching in Mechanical Engineering, including Mechanical Design, Thermodynamics, Solid and Fluid Mechanics, and Machine Dynamics.
- Coordinate and teach subjects across lectures, tutorials, practical classes, workshops, and online/blended/face-to-face modes.
- Provide constructive, fair, and timely feedback to students.
- Lead and participate in curriculum innovation and continuous improvement, embedding employability skills and industry input.
- Supervise Honours and Masters by coursework students.
- Mentor and develop staff, fostering a high-performing and inclusive team culture.
- Engage with industry and external research organisations.
- Undertake administrative duties as required.
About You
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, curriculum development, and subject coordination (face-to-face, blended, and/or online).
- Ability to influence and support the teaching practice of others.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
- Experience supervising honours and postgraduate students.
- Recognised record of high-quality research and scholarly publications.
- Ability to attract external competitive grants.
- Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
